Manufacturers of Starbar® (commonly referred to as Globar®) and Moly-D® (Molybdenum Disilicide Heating Elements). Starbars are interchangeable with all silicon carbide heating elements manufactured in the United States as well as higher resistance heating elements manufactured for the Asian and European markets. Starbars will give you superior performance due to their high density - approximately 2.4 gms/cc. This give the Starbar very slow aging characteristics and additional strength. Moly-D® is a dense cermet material consisting of MoSi2 and and oxide, glassy phase component. It has the ability to withstand oxidation at high temperatures by forming a protective layer of quartz on its surface. If this glassy phase should be exposed to contaminants, a lower melting phase forms. This material literally drips off the element exposing more molybdenum disilicide on which a new protective oxide layer forms.
